Currently reading

I'm currently reading three books actively. I thought last month that it would be great to reread the Harry Potter series, so I'm continuing with the second book, however, I probably won't finish it this month, because I'd really like to finish Elantris and maybe even the novella (The Emperor's Soul) after. Also I decided to reread the first five books in The Princess Diaries series and then continue on, because I want to read the Royal Wedding so badly.

There are a lot more books I put down and some of them I'm not even sure I will ever finish. For example I haven't read a page from A Discovery of Witches since february. I'm 150 pages in and I just don't care about that book. This is also true to Stray, but I should give it another chance, because for my reading challenge I have to read a book by an author who has the same initials as me and I'm not really interested in her other books (yeah, good reasoning). 1984, Amazonia and The Fill-In Boyfriend I'm sure I'll pick up later, I just wasn't in the mood for them, but I know I will love all three. And lastly there's The Gray Wolf Throne. Well, I liked the first two books and I started to read this several times over the last year, but it just can't hold my attention and these books are too long to waste my time if I'm not loving them so maybe I should just DNF it, but I also want to know how it all ends and I really enjoyed the first two. What should I do?

Summer Reading Plans

Altough I haven't finished everything on my spring reading list yet I still wanted to do a summer one too, because it's fun to look through my books and plan ahead what I'd like to read in the next few months. I didn't include books that are yet to be released, because those are obvious.

Top 5 Books I Read in One Sitting

Usually it takes more time for me to read a whole book, but there are certain cases when I just fly through them. So here's a list of those.
Yes, almost all of these are contemporaries.

#TBRTakedown WRAP-UP

The readathon was a success! I'm kind of proud of myself, because I've read a lot (for me) and I've even sticked to my TBR (mostly). Aaaand most importantly I really liked almost all the books I've finished so I'm even more happy with myself right now.

books I've finished this week
  1. Slammed by Colleen Hoover - I was surprised how much I loved this one. Altough I love Colleen Hoover, her books can be a hit or miss for me, this was definetely a hit. I've even cried, twice. ★★★★
  2. Scarlet by A. C. Gaughen - Nope, big nope. Like I said, I'm not into YA fantasy right now, but I hope I'll love them again sometime in the future, because I really want to read a few new releases. ★
  3. I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson - Now I understand the hype! Just wow! ★★★★★
  4. P. S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han - Nice, fun, cute, like the first one. Though I have to say Jenny Han should just STOP WRITING STUPID LOVE TRIANGLES! She does them so poorly (or so good?) I just can't. ★★★★
  5. The Girl in 6E by A. R. Torre - Surprisingly great! I was afraid, because I just can't read about this topic, but this book was good (even considering that I hated certain parts). ★★★★
  6. Chew, Vol. 3 by John Layman - FUN. ★★★★★
  7. Chew, Vol. 4 by John Layman - FUN. ★★★★★
I've finished five books and two graphic novels and I haven't read anything on Sunday. Yay for readathons!

May WRAP-UP

I had a pretty good reading month, but otherwise I basically did nothing productive.

Books
  • Lucy Christopher: Stolen - ★★★
  • John Scalzi: The Human Division - ★★★★★ ★
  • Mira Grant: Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box - ★★★★
  • John Layman: Chew, Vol. 1. - ★★★★
  • Jessi Kirby: Things We Know by Heart - ★★★★★
  • Kiera Cass: The Heir - ★★★
  • Leigh Bardugo - Ruin and Rising - ★★★
  • Susan Ee: World After - ★★★★
  • Sam Maggs: The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy - ★★
  • Sarah J. Maas: A Court of Thorns and Roses - ★★
  • Susan Ee: End of Days - ★★★★
  • Kimbery McCreight: Reconstructing Amelia - ★★★★
  • J. K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - ★★★★★ ★
  • Brandon Sanderson: Warbreaker - ★★★★★
  • Nicola Yoon: Everything Everything - ★★★★★
  • Michael J. Sullivan: Nyphron Rising - ★★★★
  • John Layman: Chew, Vol. 2. - ★★★★★

My favorite books of the month were The Human Division, which is the fifth book in the Old Man's War series, and I LOVED IT SO SO MUCH. This is probably my favorite so far and I just adore Harry Wilson! Also loved Everything Everything, but that was to be expected, because everyone raves about it and they were right. It comes out in September and I highly recommend it! It was lovely.

I've read a very minimal amount of adult sci-fi and fantasy, which is weird, because these are my favorite genres and I loved all three books I've read in may. Also Brandon Sanderson amazes me all the time.

I think I had enough of YA fantasies, I just don't enjoy them as much as everyone else seems to. I really liked the last two books of the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy and The Heir was alright too (not my favorite in the series by far, but it's still entertaining). Almost all these books I've read during bout of books.
Stolen is overhyped in my opininon and I didn't enjoy The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy either. Reconstructing Amelia would've been an amazing read if it wasn't so full of clichés. If you want to read a cute YA contemporary I would recommend Things We Know by Heart and Everything Everything. Both were really good.
I finally started Chew and I have to say it's worth the hype surrounding it! I really enjoyed the first one, but loved the second and can't wait to continue on with this series. I've also finished the last remaining short story I had by Mira Grant, so now I don't have anything by her to read. :( (I don't want to continue the Parasitology trilogy.)

This month I reread the first book in the Harry Potter series, because I was in the mood for it and now I don't want to do anything else just read all the books. Nice...

TV Shows
I started to watch Younger the other day and I fell in love in 5 minutes, seriously. I don't know how I did not know this show existed, but I'm so happy I found it. It is awesome and I marathoned all ten episodes the last day of May. So much fun. If you don't like Sutton Foster, you still should give it a chance. I couldn't stand her in the beginning of Bunheads, but she grows on you, really. I watch this show because of her.
I was in the mood for Friends so I've binged the first season and I think I will continue with the second right away. They are my absolute favorites.

#TBRTakedown readathon ~ My TBR

As you can see, I LOVE readathons. It wasn't always the case, I never read anything during these days, but it was because I picked boring/long books. I hope I choose right this time and also that I'll have the time to read this week.

This readathon takes place the first week of June (June 1-7). It was Shannon's idea and it sounds awesome! She even posted a video about it on her youtube channel, go watch it.

The Challenges

1. A book that's been on your TBR over a year
Slammed by Colleen Hoover
2. An unread sequel sitting on your shelf
The Emerald Sword by Michael J. Sullivan
